Be a Blogging Historian

Since leaving university I have not had much cause to air my inner historian (can you call yourself a historian just because you have a degree in history?). I have discovered (via stalker friend) that today is my opportunity…

The university I went to held the UK Mass Observation Archives (real accounts of Britain’s social history, written by ordinary people). I used some of the material in my dissertation, but mostly I just went and read about people’s accounts of their lives – because I’m a little nosey like that and it was quite interesting.

So today, it seems, The Institute for Historical Research is looking for as many people as possible to blog their day today (Tuesday 17 October) on this site. Great - count me in – I am going to exercise my historical writing abilities. And how lucky they’ve picked a day when I have my ball class – it’ll make me sound so much more interesting than if they had picked a Monday.

They are looking for as many people as possible to document their day – so take part!

Well I tried to be a historian or contribute to history (or Ms Jones' general nosiness, whatever it was I was supposed to be doing) but failed miserably - I am not the cleverest with computers and had a small child who did not find contributing to history an intersting thing to do when he was not allowed to press all the buttons. In any event spent the day surrounded by washing, dust, toys and poo so not much for anyone to be interested in - even the nosiest of people would have scrolled on past my day, so no loss to anyone.

I beg to differ, oh wise one. Sounds like exactly what they want to hear about... however after having spent three days in the company of you and said small children, I can see how the budding historian in you had been squashed!
