I know that you're itching to know how I've done.
I would like to confirm that yes, I have been running since losing my source of motivation and I'm very smug about it.
Apparently every action has a corresponding reaction, I hear. I can confirm this is true. What has this got to do with my running? Well, a lot as it would happen, but first, let's get this action/reaction thing sorted.
I saw on a website, that this is not just some flippant phrase that people throw about. It is a LAW.
The LAW of Action followed by Reaction.
So I read that on a hippy karma website, however as many of you cleverheads will know, it's not just about being a hippy. Mr Isaac Newton himself also has something rather more scientific to say about it all.
It is not just any old law, it is the Third Law (of Motion - but ignore that bit - just pay attention to the fact that he confirms it's a LAW). Actions induce effects (i.e. reactions), they interact - gettit? No? Well here's an example then:
A magnet attracts a paperclip.
Action = magnetic pull
Reaction = paperclip jumping onto the magnet.
(v. technical)
Anyway, the relevance is that I have discovered that I am unable to run (action - and not an attractive one at that, remember) without incurring a reactionary cost.
The reaction being an irresistible force that pushes me towards cupboards or shops and demands that I eat chocolate. And crisps. And other bad things.
It's all about balance - you burn more calories, you eat more calories. But it's not weight loss problem. Unfortunate result = no weight loss and possible consumption of more calories than those used.
In all honestly, this is just an elaborate way of letting you know that my weight loss programme has gone very poorly, due to a scientific glitch and no fault of my own. I repeat - it's a LAW.
